About Me

A title reflects so much in a piece of literature. It provides the scope of what the pages will reveal and sometimes a

glimpse into the most exciting part of the plot. “The life and times of a wayward archeologist” might have been an appropriate autobiographical title, had my life been the way I envisioned at age six.

I come from German (Mennonite/Brethren) stock with bits of Norse, Celtic, Native American, and some mysterious unknown combination from an adopted grandparent. Not an uncommon blend for most of us who settled early in Pennsylvania.

This type of diverse heritage left me ripe for the genealogical bug. I make a pilgrimage once a month and attempt to trace all the branches of my family tree. Unearthing facts that were never documented previously always brings excitement.

Mixing the past with an addiction for music, audio books, art, handcrafts, kickboxing and growing our vegetable garden rounds out what is left of my spare time. It not only keeps me busy, it also keeps me from an old smoking habit and gaining back 25 pounds.

Unemployment is my current employer. Yes, yet another misplaced talent waiting to be discovered all over again. I have worked in the Information Technology/Services field for 12 years starting as an analyst; building up to a help desk supervisor. I hope to continue in this field for a bit longer.

If the loss of a job would have occurred more than a year ago I would have, at that time, curled into a ball and hosted the pity party. These days I look at it as a way to justify the cost of a gym membership and another chance at an education.

The question remains, do I still remotely qualify for that six years olds vision?

In some sense… maybe so.

So why another blog? If anything it’s to document food, art, and handcrafts that are created by my hands or made in my kitchen.
